About CountyFinder

The private county lookup, built on official Census Bureau data.

Updated · Data: U.S. Census Bureau

CountyFinder answers one question well: which county are you in? It does it privately, on your device, using official Census Bureau county lines.

Why we built it

Most county lookups either send your location to a server or give a one-line answer that is wrong for people near county lines. 639 US cities and towns with 1,000+ people span more than one county, and 29% of ZIP code areas cross a county line. We show those splits instead of hiding them.

What makes it different

  • Private by design. Your position is compared with county lines inside your browser. We never receive it.
  • Honest about county lines. Within 500 m of a line, we say so and name the other county.
  • Residents, not just land. For cities in several counties, we show where people actually live (Census place-in-county estimates).
  • Official data, cited. Every page lists its sources and date.

Independence

CountyFinder is an independent website. It is not affiliated with the U.S. Census Bureau, USPS or any government agency. For legal or tax purposes, confirm your county with the county itself.
